Platinum Performance was founded in 1996 by renowned equine veterinarian, Dr. Doug Herthel to support his cases in veterinary practice. The Platinum Performance Technical Service Veterinarian is a highly specialized role that is responsible for leading the Equine and Petcare nutritional technical support in the United States and internationally. Technical Services Veterinarian will help grow the adoption of nutrition with veterinarians and clients through a consultative approach, focusing on education and support. The candidate must demonstrate a high proficiency for in-practice clinical nutrition expertise and case management, utilize their understanding of the equine veterinarian’s point of view to develop best in class Veterinary Advisor and KOL education programs; directed at the veterinarian by making nutrition science interesting, relevant and relatable with presentations and matching content, illustrate strong leadership and advisory skills with exceptional communication and KOL nurturing abilities, be able to influence and impact others point of views through impactful presentations illustrating exceptional presentation and facilitation skills, and provide veterinary medical oversite for all internal teams (Marketing, Veterinary Advisors, Regulatory, etc.).

This position reports to the Platinum Performance Associate Director Veterinary Advisors and supports a team in the advancement of the mission to have nutrition thought of on every case, every time. Candidate will be provided technical nutritional expertise through consultation to equine veterinary clinics across the US and International markets. These activities include the coaching of the Veterinary Advisor team during field rides, calling on veterinarians directly, presenting prepared talks to large and small groups of veterinarians, horse owners from time to time, speaking at VMA meetings, development of timely presentations with marketing team members, and providing feedback to the research and development team when required. It is essential for the person in this position be a team player, have in depth knowledge of the challenges an equine veterinarian faces, can effectively be the voice of the veterinarian and has deep technical nutrition competency. The position will require travel and nights away from home.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Knowledge

  • Communicate technical nutrition concepts and research to veterinarians and clients in a manner that drives interest, creates believers in the power of nutrition resulting in advocates that think of nutrition every case, every time.
  • Communicate the impact that nutrition has on aspects of health such as reproduction, athletic performance, rehabilitation, and specific health conditions such as anhidrosis, or trigeminal mediated head shaking.
  • Understand key industry trends, opportunities, and KOL networks. Effectively communicate relevant insights to clients that create value for their business.
  • Support veterinarians and the Veterinary Advisor team to develop protocols that improve horse wellness and performance.
  • Lead in-practice nutrition training activities with veterinarians, and clinic staff to educate and implement nutrition in practice.
  • Educate horse owners at the request of the Veterinary Advisor in a manner that allows for understanding of highly technical nutritional information through various methods such as barn meetings, vet clinic horse owner education events, and one-on-one interactions, building from feeds and feeding to cellular nutrition.
  • Provide timely feedback and field level insights on a regular basis to the research and development team.

Educational Content Development and Delivery

  • Develop and maintain quality content of the Platinum Performance learning sites with the Marketing Team.
  • Influence both external and E-learning sites in conjunction with marketing and veterinary team leaders.
  • Provide an understanding of adult learning and development practices and theories.
  • Understand, deconstruct, and build Veterinary Advisor training
  • Develop and review technical content for CE Webinars and Podcasts with Marketing Team.
  • Attend Veterinary and Nutrition CE events, conferences, and partner events developing and delivering inspiring content to educate veterinarians and horse owners.

Clinic and Practitioner Engagement

  • Demonstrate the value of Platinum Performance portfolio through a thorough understanding of our client’s management and business processes and the steps necessary to demonstrate value.
  • Communicate effectively to deliver training and sales presentations to veterinary clinics their trainers, horse owners, and all related influencers.
  • Exemplify what it means to be a change agent, continuous learner, pushing self / others beyond dominant logic, through leading the philosophical conversion to nutrition in practice.
  • Demonstrate advanced advising and consulting skills - Teach new insights, understand and diagnose current situation, develop a solution to solve and finally tailor message to individual needs to effectively communicate solution, including implementation of new process that may be required as clients adopt new ways of doing things.

Leadership/Teamwork, Collaboration and Coordination

  • Support the technical coaching and development of the Veterinary Advisor team.
  • Aid leadership team members in the development and selection of talent.
  • Develop in conjunction with Veterinary Advisor a working plan for impacting their territory, clinics, and key priorities through use of data analysis, planning, utilization of resources and execution of business plans.
  • Continually challenge Veterinary Advisor team to sharpen the saw by providing educational opportunities for Veterinary Advisor team in conjunction with the Associate Director Veterinary Advisors in all medical areas of importance along with content related to financial, industry, and business acumen topics impacting the equine nutrition and supplement business.
  • Lead in a cross-functional team-based environment, align with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Focus on teamwork – share, collaborate and act as a team player.

Veterinarian Influencer Leadership

  • Establish rapport and credibility with all centers of influence, universities, students and clinics through focusing on questioning to understand needs, drivers, and aspirations in a manner that brings value and provides mutually beneficial opportunities.
  • Build relationships within key stakeholders including equine veterinarians, horse trainers, barn managers, universities, local influencers, and KOLs.
  • Build and maintain a directory of quality assured veterinarians, trainers, riders, owners to promote and facilitate education of the Platinum Performance portfolio

  • The position requires the ability to call on Equine Veterinarians, Horse Trainers, Barn Managers, Horse Owners, and Academic influencers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • DVM degree or equivalent.
  • Advanced degree or board certification in clinical nutrition preferred.
  • 12-15 years of related experience in the veterinary industry and/or veterinary hospital.
  • Extensive knowledge of current topics and issues in clinical veterinary medicine.
  • Knowledge of equine supplement and feed production experience is preferred.
  • This is a field-based role, candidate must be able to accommodate extensive travel up to 70%, including international travel when warranted. Extended hours may be required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Technical knowledge and proficiency in developing supplement protocols.
  • Strong coaching skills to include ability to provide feedback to increase team performance and client experience.
  • Excellent business acumen, including specific knowledge of products and services sold.
  • Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong facilitator, able to resolve conflict through mutual understanding and respect.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and direct work activities as needed.
  • Proficiency with computer applications including Salesforce, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Project / Process management experience.

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires individual to be willing to work with veterinarians and their client horses from basic husbandry and behavioral observation.
