Job Description

Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) is seeking an enthusiastic formulation scientist for a challenging and fast-paced position in Biologics Product Development in Lincoln, NE.

The scientist is responsible for the design and execution of pre-formulation, formulation & process optimization studies, including scale-up, manufacture of clinical supplies, and processes transferring to pilot/manufacturing facilities. The scientist is also responsible for working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, authoring technical and regulatory documents, leading/supporting organizational initiatives, assessing new capabilities/technologies. The selected individual is expected to have knowledge of formulation types and technologies, including lyophilization, stabilization approaches, and familiarity with analytical techniques to characterize biologicals.

The responsibilities for this role will include but not limited to:

•Design and development of parenteral biologic formulations (solutions, emulsions, lyophilized products, and other dosage forms)

•Develop and optimize lyophilization-cycles and emulsions with process characterization

•Design and perform commercial process development studies for drug products by using expertise/knowledge of scale-down/scale-up principles

•Manufacture and supply formulations/drug product for clinical studies

•Design and conduct studies to characterize molecular and biophysical properties of various types of biological substrates (virus, bacterial, peptides, proteins, monoclonal antibodies, nucleotides, etc.)

•Collaborate with and support pilot plant and manufacturing scientists for successful technology transfer

•Work with cross-functional teams (internal and external) to execute plans and deliverables

•Keep abreast of relevant new technologies & regulatory expectations/requirements

•Ensure work activities are aligned with relevant Quality and EHS requirements

Basic Qualifications:

B.S. (5+ years’ experience) or MS (2+ years’ experience) or PhD (0-2 years’ experience) in Pharmaceutics or Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology or related field with research focus on formulation related aspects of biologicals.

Preferred Skills:

•Knowledge of drug delivery systems for biologicals

•Experience/advanced knowledge of parenteral formulation development for biologics

•Understanding of biochemistry, degradation pathways, and general approaches for stabilization of biologics

•Experience with biophysical techniques (laser diffraction, microscopy, viscosity) and ability to apply them for characterization and problem-solving during formulation development

•Understanding of various types of vaccine antigens and adjuvant systems

•Ability to independently contribute from the bench

•Good oral and written communication skills
