Laboratory Technician III
• Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting the team in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Operations associated with laboratory testing, equipment, facility, and materials.
• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies, as necessary.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Required Skills, Education, and Experience
• MT/MLT and 2 to 5+ years of lab experience
• CVT/RVT/LVT and 3 to 5+ years of lab experience
• Associates degree and 3 to 5+ years of lab experience
• Bachelors degree and 3 to 5+ years of lab experience
• Experience in a clinical laboratory setting with comprehensive knowledge of high throughput hematology, chemistry, immunoassay, urinalysis, O&P/fecal and related analyzers/diagnostics.
• Experience with 2-3 of the following instruments: Advia 2120i, Immulite 2000 XPi, AU680/5800, Clinitek Advantus, or Stago STarT.
• Understanding of test results to be able to determine if results are valid; or the result of pre or post analytical error.
• Demonstrated ability to build, develop and work within a clinical laboratory team, including creative problem solving and flexibility to meet rapid growth.
• Strong IT and LIS (laboratory information systems) experience and high comfort level with computer systems, technology, and equipment interfaces.
• Able to read and understand Standard Operating Procedures, troubleshoot sophisticated laboratory instruments in a timely manner, and have a working knowledge of LIS procedures.
• Strong computer skills and ability to work within windows and Laboratory Information System environment
• Advanced knowledge in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, fluid analysis
Preferred candidate qualifications:
• Team leadership, friendly and loves a challenge.
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.
• Robust organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work in fast-paced STAT environment.
• Experience in the veterinary field strongly preferred, but not required. Other experience considered as applicable.
Physical and Time requirements:
• Able to sit and stand for long periods of time
• Able to lift up to 30lbs
• Flexible hours and overtime may be required
• SHIFT TIMES: Must be available for evenings as needed and rotating weekends.
