Job Description

The Global Therapeutics Research Group is seeking a talented immunobiologist with experience in antibody isolation from B-cells. This scientist will be part of a multi-disciplinary team assisting isolation of monoclonal antibodies from several species utilizing a variety of state-of-the-art B-cell technologies. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in a matrixed team environment.

The successful candidate should have relevant experience developing, optimizing, and identifying antibodies from single B-cells. Experience with developing methodologies from a variety of tissues in multiple species is desired but not required. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

Please note: This position is for a fixed term of 3.5 years.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Isolation and characterization of antibody producing primary cells from tissues
  • Expertise in immunological assays including ELISA, ELISpot and flow cytometry
  • Experience in the development, characterization and isolation of antigen-specific B-cells
  • Experience in molecular biology methods associated with antibody repertoire characterization in RACE, degenerate variable region PCR and single cell RT-PCR
  • Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) of antibody repertoires
  • Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines
  • Ability to conduct hypothesis-based research in partnership with a principal investigator at Zoetis and/or in collaboration with academia
  • Critical thinking and excellent communication and presentation skills are essential
  • Experience with animal colony care and handling
  • Directly communicate with external partners for collaborations and outsourcing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Educational background: BS, MS, or PhD (molecular or cellular biology, immunology or related field). Post-doctoral fellows considered.
  • Training or experience in biological sciences focusing on single cell immunobiology.
  • Experience in primary immunological cell isolation and co-culture assays
  • Expertise in flow cytometry
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to design, interpret, and present complex scientific data in a team environment is required
  • Ability to work independently with ambiguity and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently, design experiments with minimal supervision, and able work across teams remotely and face-to-face.
  • Experience interacting with CROs or external partnerships
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to design, interpret, and present complex scientific data in a team environment is required
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook

Work environment:

The placement of this position will be primarily in Fort Collins, CO and is a lab-based position. Occasional travel to R&D headquarters in Kalamazoo, MI may also be requested.

The person filling this position will work in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms
