Position Summary:

Zoetis is looking for an in vivo biologist to work in the Companion Animal Research area on animal models of disease states such as allergy and pain/inflammation. Applicants should have a strong grounding in biological sciences with extensive experience of working with animals in a clinical or research setting. Successful work with cats is strongly desired. The skill set of the candidate should include blood and urine sampling from animals, dosing via multiple routes (i.v., oral etc) and potentially training animals to perform simple tasks. The candidate will preferably have research experience including disease model development and some understanding of drug target identification. Strong candidates will have practical experience in preparing animal use protocols, and designing, interpreting and reporting findings from in vivo research studies. Good teamwork, planning and communication skills are necessary, including an aptitude for detailed planning of complex studies. The candidate will work as a member of a team of in vivo biologists where all team members are expected to work collaboratively to ensure that studies are run successfully, alongside having responsibility for leading individual areas of research.

Please note: This is a 3 year Fixed Duration Position

Minimum skills, education, experience, attributes:

Skills: Handling cats and dogs, including taking blood samples and administering compounds, with some understanding of drug discovery

Education: BS in a biological or animal science.

Experience: Extensive experience working with dogs and cats in a clinical or research setting.

Attributes: Good interpersonal skills, scientific curiosity, ability to plan the logistics of complex studies and communicate that plan to others, ability to consider various scenarios for any given situation, ability to collaborate with colleagues

Desirable skills, education, experience, attributes:

Skills: Drug Discovery experience, in vivo model development in dogs, cats, horses or other non-laboratory species, research science background

Education: BS

Experience: Previous veterinary clinic experience, in-vivo drug discovery, experience in disease model development although this can be in rodents or other laboratory species, directing own scientific research, leading sub-projects, identifying new drug targets.

Attributes: Enthusiasm and creative science, flexibility and adaptability to work across many scientific areas simultaneously, with rapidly changing projects and situations, track record of creative solutions to issues
