Description: Provides laboratory leadership to ensure the quality and accuracy of laboratory processes. Designs, executes and provides oversight for non-routine experiments on a basis of literature analyses. Assists in supervising/training technicians and junior scientist. Performs all work in conformance with applicable regulations. Performs all work in a safe manner. The primary scope of responsibility is within the immediate discipline and secondarily within a multi-disciplinary environment. Provide future innovation group with laboratory expertise in molecular, cellular and biochemical parasitology to meet BIAH’s future innovation needs. The incumbent oversees internal research activities including hypothesis generation and experimental design, assay development and performance, and data acquisition and interpretation. Major contributor to portfolio of early stage future innovation projects (such as novel target identification and validation) in coordination with internal and external partners. Duties & Responsibilities: Initiates and completes customary procedures in an independent and efficient manner; Troubleshoots effectively and solves scientific problems independently; Operates scientific/lab equipment and is independently responsible for maintenance. Designs and executes non-routine experiments based on literature analyses with minimal supervision. Contributes to innovative assay development and executes assay implementation in-house. Independently applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps up to date on literature in own field. Works closely with the other scientists within the Future Innovation Parasitology unit to drive innovative projects with sound scientific reasoning and creative experimental approaches. Proposes new experiments/technologies based on science as well as overall understanding of drug discovery/ development process; Demonstrates leadership and expertise in field. Uses strong interpersonal skills to interact with the Parasitology Discovery Team to contribute to a thorough biological validation package to support new targets and modalities. Major contributor to the continuing growth and internal know-how of future innovation and broader parasitology discovery group by training transient lab members such as interns and co-ops as well as junior lab members. Effectively communicates and defends own work in the context of team and department goals both orally and in writing. Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics; Write protocols, procedures, and technical reports; Major contributor to continual optimization of workflows, SOP, and data management within Future Innovation group. Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies. Contributes by executing on a daily basis global research project activities within parasitology future innovation unit and presents data to project teams and other R&D functions or research partners. Activities have to be compliant with legislative expectations of regulatory agencies as well as internal standards of Good Scientific Practice. Requirements: PhD or experienced M.S. from an accredited institution in molecular parasitology, microbiology, animal or biological sciences Expertise in the Biologicals/ pharmaceutical life cycle process, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in related scientific discipline; or Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in related scientific discipline Research methodology experience and education Demonstrated competencies in molecular, biochemical and/or cellular biology experimental design, execution and data interpretation Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and in a self-directed manner Developed communication, interpersonal and intercultural skills allowing effective interaction across other groups in BIAH R&D Working knowledge of screening methodologies and pipeline progression Proven track record of exact reliable working attitude and meticulous laboratory work execution Supplemental technical courses in area of expertise Ability to operate laboratory equipment with independence Ability to draft technical reports Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills Concise and accurate reporting of technical data and interpretation thereof Proven problem solving ability Able to act for supervisor in his/her absence Appropriate level of understanding of applicable regulations Eligibility Requirements: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction. Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required). Must be 18 years of age or older.
