The Senior Research Scientist - Efficacy & Model Development will provide functional subject matter expertise to support all in vivo stage projects up to Pipeline Entry with strong focus on Proof of Concept for Pet Health product candidates. The expert function (augmented with key external collaborators) will support diverse projects in type and stage and closely align with Research Project Leads and Discovery scientists to determine or build the relevant target animal studies for Proof of Concept and additional project de-risking as required. An ongoing effort to improve project quality via validation efforts, model upgrades, and strategic use of early field/clinic studies will be important. This position will be working closely with research project leads, clinical project leads and clinical operations teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Works very closely with the Research Project Leads, Discovery Project leads and Research & Breakthrough Innovation Leadership Team to shape the research portfolio strategy, from the efficacy view, helping ensure the team is focused on advancing the best opportunities with the highest value indications.
  • Constantly applies broad prospective of the veterinary product development process, with an early risk focused mindset and an emphasis on setting up the project for success in full development.
  • Works very closely with all R&D / Regulatory functions, to ensure the strongest measurable efficacy principles are understood and being effectively used where appropriate to shape new initiatives and strengthen projects.
  • Navigate across opportunities in diverse technology platforms, to include but not limited to small molecules, vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, and other large molecule approaches.
  • Provide knowledge and help drive an efficacy evaluation strategy in dogs and cats.
  • Keeps up with the efficacy model landscape and proposes internal capability adjustment, build needs, as indicated by organizational growth, diversification and technical complexity.
  • Operationally, able to align team and efforts to a risk based project approach, able to navigate incremental funding schemes, and set rational, logical iteration efforts aligned with generating optimal minimally viable products for full development execution.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in animal health clinical specialty.
  • 3+ years animal health clinical experience.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States or Germany. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1B) for this position.

Additional Preferences:

  • Veterinary Specialty Board Certification
  • DVM
  • Animal Health industry experience

Other Information:

  • Travel (10-25%), including international, as needed
