The Senior Principal or Principal Software Engineer in MES will contribute as a member of the regional IT OPS Manufacturing MES America Team to the successful support and deployment of the local and regional Manufacturing applications for Animal Health, Human Pharma and Biopharmaceutical business community of Boehringer Ingelheim located in Athens, Georgia, other US sites are being considered. You will also manage the complete system lifecycle (concept, planning, implementation and maintenance) of specific local and regional IT MES applications.
This role will assist the Athens, GA Animal Health site readiness for Manufacturing Execution System (MES) deployment as part of the global IT team. There will also be a focus on the deployment and support of the Develop organization in Ridgefield CT, with the IU MES application (Koerber Pharma PAS-X)
In addition, this role will partner with IT team members and the client community to deliver IT systems that utilize underlying technology solutions in support of business objectives to improve productivity and enhance processes. Activities include analysis, interpretation, identifying trends and taking corrective action. Responsibilities include leading and participation on project teams, and accountability for underlying technology within the respective area. Duties may include baseline infrastructure operational support, administrative and maintenance duties.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Consulting and Analysis: Meet regularly with defined clients and stakeholders to understand and analyze their processes and needs. Determine requirements to present possible solutions or improvements.
- Client Support: Perform baseline system support, administrative and maintenance duties for assigned systems. Troubleshoot application and system problems.
- Project/Solution Activities: Support goals by participating on project teams. Deliver on assigned tasks and action items.
- Software Development Activities: Serve as an expert on existing applications/systems and underlying architecture. Employ comprehensive knowledge to influence technology decisions. Identify IT or Pharma industry processes or technologies that could provide BI with a competitive advantage.
- Documentation: Determine documentation requirements and produce documentation as required in support of baseline and project activities
Requirements
Requirements for Senior Principal Software Engineer
- Expert level of technical understanding and demonstrated knowledge for their area of responsibility.
- Strong technical design and architecture skills, and project management experience.
- Strong foundation in software development life cycle methodology.
- Associate degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field with a minimum of 11 years experience; or Bachelor degree in Computer Science, or MIS, or related field with minimum 9 years of experience; or a Master degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related field with minimum 7 years of experience; or relevant Business or IT experience of minimum of 11 years. Minimum of 6 years programming experience preferred.
Requirements for Software Engineer
- Bachelor Degree in Information Technology; Business Informatics; Business- or Automation Engineering. Knowledge of or experiences in the area of Manufacturing Execution Systems or Manufacturing (3 to 5 years) Operations Management or business processes close to production shop floor based IT systems.
- Experience with computer application life cycle processes and Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) related regulations for the Pharma industry
- Basic knowledge of MES solutions and underlying experience with managing IT technologies like Windows and Terminal Server, Databases (Oracle, SQL) and Software (Java, anti-virus, backup and monitoring tools).
- Analytical skills, In-depth knowledge of process and system design.
- Professional experience in project management for minimum of two years.
- Customer and service orientation and ability to deliver results in a fast and focused execution.
- Good intercultural and communication skills as well as an excellent command of English – both spoken and written.
- Ability to adapt to rapid changes in the technological or process landscape and understand its impact on the business.
- Ability to work independently as well as be a committed and reliable team player
- Advanced communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Willingness and readiness to travel (25%)
Eligibility Requirements
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities
Previous experience with a commercially available Manufacturing Executions Systems (i.e.: form Werum, Rockwell, Siemens) including components, modules and its core functionality.
Beneficial:
- Knowledge of IT solutions for Manufacturing Executions Systems, functionality and related business processes (e.g. Master-/Electronic batch records, Weighing & Dispense processes)
- Knowledge of Werum, PAS-X system or other MES applications and core functionality
- Software lifecycle management
- Experience with containerization /docker technology for application management (Open Shift)
