The Executive Director, Patient & Provider Solutions holds a pivotal role in shaping the overarching US Boehringer Ingelheim Patient Support Strategy across our diverse portfolio. This role requires the strategic integration of both internal resources and external contracted components to deliver a seamless and superior customer experience. The ED is entrusted with the strategic oversight across a multitude of therapeutic areas, including CRM, ILD, Respiratory, Mental Health, Oncology, Immunology, and Retina. The incumbent is accountable for the strategy across diverse therapeutic areas such as CRM, ILD, Respiratory, Mental Health, Oncology, Immunology, Retina with complex patient journeys including multiple simultaneous launches. This role is accountable for developing the road map, strategic capability build, adapting strategy as the portfolio evolves across the entire organization. This role has a high focus on transformation and innovation of our enterprise strategy with a focus on GenAI and digital technology. This role will be accountable for the patient excellence digital strategy and innovation team. This emphasis on innovation is also critical considering that we have several assets and associated treatments poised to be the first to market in addressing unmet needs.

The ED, Patient & Provider Solutions will also be accountable for the recruitment and development of high-caliber talent, leading a high-performing team to position Boehringer Ingelheim Patient Support as an industry leader and a driver of competitive differentiation and corporate reputation. This role necessitates close collaboration with all Franchise leaders and Field leaders in Patient Excellence across all therapeutic areas to design and execute strategies in unison, thereby creating a seamless customer and patient experience. The incumbent is expected to possess an innovative mindset, driving transformation and innovation in one of the most rapidly evolving sectors of the pharmaceutical industry. This role is instrumental in enabling the successful launch of all assets in the pipeline.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads the strategy development and execution of Boehringer Ingelheim's US Patient Support Program to be an industry support program that drives competitive differentiation and corporate reputation across the industry both in the US and globally.
  • Accountable for long term strategy to develop a robust program that is scalable, flexible, and rapidly evolves ahead of the rapidly changing marketplace across all therapeutic areas with a focus on digital innovation and technology.
  • Identifies and builds strategic capabilities including platforms to power patient support at Boehringer and create a business case to gain alignment for executive support on strategic capability roadmap including GenAI and secure investment for future solutions both in the US and globally.
  • Accountable for leading the Patient Excellence digital innovation and strategy team to establish and implement innovative solutions including GenAI across all TA patient support programs.
  • Lead for Patient Excellence on all therapeutic area leadership teams (TA).
  • Collaborates with and contributes to the evidence generation plan for all assets and collaborates with Value & Access to design cohesive access strategies for all assets and therapeutic areas.
  • Accountable for the development of a long-term investment plan and budgets across the portfolio for all patient support activities, platforms, and capability investment.
  • Works cross-functionally with all therapeutic area heads, A&I, Finance, Value & Access, Medicine, legal and compliance, IT, Human Pharma ops teams, Global teams to drive performance and customer experience for all therapeutic areas and all assets.
  • Accountable for the development, execution and tracking of strategic KPIs and insights that drive a best in industry patient support program across all therapeutic areas.
  • Ensures that the patient journey insights generated by the Patient Support Solutions and field teams are implemented across the organization.
  • Accountable for the management and oversight of external partner performance and dedicated employees against contractual agreements, SOPs, SLAs to budget.
  • Accountable for attracting, retaining, and developing talent to drive the best in industry patient support program.
  • Drives corporate reputation in patient support to attract best in industry talent.
  • Works with government affairs team on critical patient access policies to ensure barriers are removed from patients getting access to the care they require ultimately impacting patient outcomes.
  • Significant contribution to our SD4G goals of expanding healthcare access and improving lives of people in underserved communities.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
  • Twelve-plus (12+) years’ experience in pharmaceutical or related industry including four-plus (4+) years in Patient Support Program, Specialty and/or marketing experience.
  • Eight-plus (8+) years relevant market access or patients’ services preferred.
  • Five-plus (5+) years of experience in leading multiple teams and providing organization wide strategic direction.
  • “Coach player” mindset: Strong leadership and coaching skills to provide guidance and mentorship to teams across TAs.
  • Ability of working cross functionally, Analytical skills, Communication skills, Business Acumen, Learning and adaptability and leadership Skills (both leading their team and playing a key leadership role in BU Sales, Marketing team.
  • Deep understanding of BU patient management processes and the interrelationships between the HCPs involved, as well as the processes for pharmacovigilance processes and reporting.
  • Broad functional experiences in the US BU specialty market.
  • Strategic capability with strong agility to develop and oversee the implementation of diverse patient support programs.
  • Strong experience in cultivating and building relationships with key stakeholders including organization level senior executives, board member and external partners.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, exhibit critical decision-making, possess learning agility, build relationships, and influence outcomes both with and without authority.
  • Solid understanding of current and future trends in US health care delivery.
  • Successful track record of project management, business case development and long-term strategic capability planning and implementation; affinity for process improvement.
  • In depth knowledge of pharmaceutical manufacturer compliance requirements, HIPAA regulations.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Compensation Data

This position offers a base salary typically between $184,000 and $325,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements.
