This role is based on-site at our Ridgefield, CT location with hybrid flexibility of 2-3 days per week on-site.
The Executive Director of Patient & Community Clinical Educators (PaCE) is responsible for the patient & community clinical educator team across the portfolio. This is a national scope team composed of clinically licensed field personnel (eg, Physician Associates, Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Pharmacists, etc) whose core responsibility is to provide direct to patient education to individuals prescribed a product by their healthcare provider. This position includes the development and implementation of each Franchises Clinical Educator capabilities, educational tools/ engagement protocols and processes, patient data platforms, compliance framework and business plan at launch and beyond. The Executive Director of Patient & Community Clinical Educators has an in-depth working knowledge of each product marketplace & organization, the multidisciplinary clinical teams supporting patient care, professional medical and congress organizations across the continental US, key accounts including national/regional/local patient advocacy groups, public and private payers, national account influences and key customer accounts. The Executive Director will create and implement a strategy that maximizes the use of key company resources and budgets to deliver best in industry direct to patient, healthcare provider (including clinical support staff) and patient advocacy market segment education. The Executive Director will be accountable for coaching and development of the team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Leads development, implementation and oversight of related corporate policies, SOPs, engagement protocols, educational and commercial reporting platforms and strategies for all therapeutic budgetary objectives as areas within Boehringer Specialty Care, ensuring that alignment defined in the Maximizing of comprehensive patient services, per therapeutic franchise, comply with Legal and Compliance guidance policies. Continuously monitors and adapts legal guardrails across specialty TAs to align with Boehringer internal corporate policies and external industry standards in support of approved comprehensive patient and consumer programs/services that optimize the customer experience and differentiates Boehringer in the rare disease marketplace. This includes creation and continuous improvement of independent patient support platforms across all TAs, ensuring compliant integration into a central recording system that maintains patient confidentiality, data integrity and aligns to corporate data governance requirements, in accordance with federal HIPAA regulations
- Oversees creation, alignment and implementation of strategic templates across Commercial, Medical, Legal and Compliance functions to ensure consistency and enable customization of PaCE capabilities, tools and resources that support unique brand priorities and meet the educational needs of across all Therapeutic areas
- Recruits, leads, and develops a staff of approximately 94 team members (inclusive of 2 Directors, 9 Senior Associate Directors and 83 individual contributor PaCE employees, with potential to grow beyond current allocation) to provide education to Multidisciplinary Clinical Support Staff (inclusive of specialty physicians, advanced practice clinicians, nurses, medical assistants, etc.), patients, advocacy partners and consumers on disease state and Boehringer Specialty Division products.
- Collaborates with and supports the sales force to meet or exceed annual Company sales and market share objectives through delivery of disease state and product education to meet the unique educational needs of each specialty marketplace
- Collaborates closely with National, Zone and Associate Director Sales Leadership, Marketing, Director of PARD, Access Solutions, Market Access, Trade Operations, Legal/Compliance, Data Analytics, Pharmacovigilance and other Boehringer Specialty Division stakeholders to coordinate national resources to compliantly maximize attainment of approved educational and commercial goals
- Manages the Boehringer Ingelheim Specialty Organization Clinical Educators to a high level of productivity
- Recruits Director, Associate Director and individual contributor candidates to ensure that all manager and staff positions are replete and develops top talent across the organization.
- Ensures team is staffed with qualified, highly motivated personnel and contributes to building a positive culture across the Patient Excellence team
- Directs and reviews Director and Associate Director work activity, ensuring all members are effectively managed
- Provides guidance to Director and Associate Director personnel regarding coaching and development of team
- Performs all Company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g., EEO, FDA, DEA, OSHA, PDMA, EPA, PhRMA, etc.) and Company policies and procedures.
- Contributes to the development of the Asset team plans and long-term strategic plans. Utilizes appropriate data sources and allocation of budget to develop PaCE strategic plan
- Attends and supports HCP and patient/consumer and advocacy advisory boards as well as management and marketing meetings to recommend patient, HCP and advocacy partner needs and product strategies to ensure that PaCE have the tools needed to optimize the product patient journey and enhance market penetration
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree - Major focus: Health Sciences, Healthcare and/or Clinical Medicine
- 10+ years of successful pharmaceutical experience required, including 4-6 years leading a team in either ILD or Immunology or similar specialty care experience.
- Active professional clinical license preferred
- Ability of working cross functionally, Analytical skills, Communication skills, Business Acumen, Learning and Adaptability, Leadership Skills, influencing skills (working across internal stakeholders in Ridgefield, as well as external stakeholders in the provider community).
- Deep understanding of BU patient management processes and the interrelationships between the HCPs involved, as well as the processes for pharmacovigilance processes and reporting.
- Experience in building, recruiting, deploying and developing a BU Clinical Educator field force and all its implications is highly valued.
- Broad functional experiences in the US (particularly Sales and/or Marketing Management, Account Management and/or Market Access, Distribution/Specialty Pharmacy).
- Ability to work with respective marketing personnel to develop key resources for national PaCE across TAs in deployment of educational resources which comply with FDA and Boehringer compliance.
- Ability to build and work with various of data resources for recording and reporting patient education data which complies with appropriate government and BIPI compliance guidelines
- Strategic capability with strong agility to develop and oversee the implementation of diverse specialty regional business plans necessary to achieve success across the complex and rapidly evolving specialty market.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting clinical and pharmacoeconomic data and healthcare practice management guidelines.
- In depth understanding and proven experience in driving success; Success operating within a matrix environment where direct reports and their constituents are interdependent on others' engagement with customer universe
Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $200,000 and $347,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements.
