The Executive Director, TMCP is a globally or locally acting managerial role in TMCP, combining scientific excellence, strategic guidance and leadership for the respective TMCP area of responsibility or TA with people management. This role will foster delivery of the TMCP Mission, Vision & Strategic Intent to build understanding of diseases and drugs by developing and implementing innovative translational strategies across the entire clinical development pipeline.

As an internally and externally recognized highly distinguished expert & leader with functional and/or TA focus:

  • Initiates, oversees and leads clinical drug development tasks and/or strategic initiatives of high complexity and value.
  • Accountable for steering all key strategies, concepts, initiatives and deliverables around accountability.
  • Accountable for functional innovation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Functional Leadership - for the respective area of responsibility:

  • Accountable for the overall strategy implementation and direction of the respective area of responsibility at TMCP level including its organizational and scientific development.
  • Designs, drives and ensures implementation of innovative concepts in line with TMCP and IU strategy.
  • Global responsibility due to full accountability for the respective area of responsibility at TMCP level.
  • Contributes and shapes the overall strategy and direction of TMCP and the IU.
  • Accountable for global state of the art strategies, concepts and structures within respective area of responsibility, especially focusing on organizational structures, functional deliverables and operating models.
  • Accountable to drive the strategic and scientific development.
  • Identifies, assesses, selects and incorporates emerging trends and scientific innovation into functional scope.
  • Implements and fosters an open and agile OneTMCP mindset driving a culture of smart, courageous risk taking and accountability.


People Management - for the respective area of responsibility:

  • Leads a larger organization composed of leaders and/or experienced scientists.
  • Global accountability, including full responsibility for area of responsibility within global TMCP.
  • Systematic development of talents and future leaders within TMCP, thus playing an essential role for organizational development within BI.
  • Establishes and nurtures a constructive, transparent and effective exchange of knowledge and experience and a corresponding learning environment.
  • Fosters an atmosphere within the organization that takes advantage of the width of expertise within TMCP and grows the OneTMCP mindset.


Interfaces:

  • Represents TMCP as well as BI at internal as well as external meetings and committees and panels.


Internal interfaces:

  • Accountable for strategic interface management e.g., leads strategic areas and creates competence centers around topics of high importance for BI.
  • Accountable as main interface for all area related topics for partners within and outside TMCP.


External interfaces:

  • Accountable to initiate and ensure implementation of strategic partnerships and interactions with external providers.
  • Identifies commercial, academic or government partners/stakeholders including regulatory agencies and ensures an effective collaboration.


Initiatives:

  • Accountable for design and implementation of strategic and overarching initiatives and organizational development projects; Represents TMCP and/or BI in these and in committees and panels.


Compliance:

  • Ensures that deliverables of area of responsibility are executed in accordance with SOPs, policies, procedures, and applicable regulations such as GCP and laws.


Budget:

  • Accountability for budget setting and adherence.

Requirements

  • PhD/MD preferably in a field related to the area of responsibility.
  • Long-standing experience in clinical development, translational medicine and clinical pharmacology.
  • Personnel management skills.
  • Highly distinguished experience around responsibility.
  • Strong background in life science and/or medicine, i. e. translational medicine, clinical pharmacology, biomarkers, pharmaceutical sciences, molecular biology, bioinformatics, data sciences.
  • Expert knowledge in preclinical and all phases of clinical drug development in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Familiar with applicable laws, regulatory guidelines and requirements, e. g. GCP and ICH guidelines.
  • Demonstrated successful personnel and matrix leadership skills in a global and very complex setting and evidence of inspirational and productive leadership of individuals and teams as well as teamwork in a multidisciplinary environment.

  • International exposure in daily business (> 50% of international business/customers/staff) > four (4) years.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
