Position Overview

The Commercial Lead, Diagnostics Global Commercial Development (GCD) (focus Livestock), will play a significant role in providing commercial leadership and expertise toward Diagnostics strategic planning, new product planning and lifecycle planning for the Diagnostics area. The Commercial Lead will partner with Veterinary Medicine Research & Development (VMRD) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to advance Diagnostic assets through research and development milestones, and continuously provide customer perspective and commercial input.

The Commercial Lead will be leading the Diagnostics cross-functional Global Asset Team (GAT) and be an active member of the VMRD and Business Development (BD) led project teams. This function will work closely with the GCD Diagnostics Medical Lead, as well as the Global Diagnostics teams, the Commercial Organizations around the world, and GCD Livestock Leads.

For new products, the Commercial Lead is responsible for leading global launch activities in collaboration with the commercial organization and will develop and execute the global launch plan. He/she will partner with key and lead markets to ensure launch readiness and lead the development of market research studies, global positioning, messaging and creative concepts. The Commercial Lead will also play a key role in lifecycle planning for new and key in-line products and will lead the development of strategies from a commercial side.

Key Accountabilities

  • In collaboration with VMRD, the GCD Medical Lead, Global Diagnostics and the key and lead markets, lead the development of the long-term Diagnostics strategies and pipeline.
  • Ensure Diagnostics new product competency of Marketing colleagues in the markets and lead/ support new launches.
  • In collaboration with the GCD Medical Lead, create market development plans and lead asset development activities
  • Lead the development and execution of global launch plans for new Diagnostic products.
  • Support development milestones for pipeline products (product profiles, valuations, scenario/ alternative planning, forecasting) and provide continuous commercial input to development teams.
  • Participate in preparing and presenting Diagnostic area reviews and business updates to Senior Management.
  • Collaborate with Business Development (BD) to identify potential acquisitions that are consistent with established Diagnostics strategy; conduct valuations and build business cases with Finance and BD.
  • Track emerging Diagnostic technologies and competition.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of strategic marketing, market research, strategy consulting, and/or equivalent academic / industry experience required.
  • MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
  • Livestock knowledge/ experience.
  • Knowledge of global veterinary diagnostic market preferred.
  • Strong Skills in project management, analytical thinking and planning/ organization.
  • Effectively working in a highly matrixed environment, with proven ability to negotiate and influence across multiple stakeholder groups in the organization (R&D, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Commercial Organization).
  • Strategic thinker with ability to clearly define short-term and long-term objectives as well as align resources to successfully deliver these objectives.
  • Ability to influence and engage senior executives.
  • Strong communication skills including excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work in cross-cultural settings.
  • Ability to manage multiple and complex projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent relationship building and consultative skills – team player and highly collaborative.
