Last Updated: 10/15/21

Job Description

The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (CVMBS) Veterinary Health System Senior Associate Dean (SrAD) oversees the strategic coordination and operational implementation of the comprehensive Veterinary Health System (VHS), located in the Veterinary Health Complex on the south campus of Colorado State University (CSU). Working closely with the CVMBS Dean and Executive Council, the VHS SrAD will lead and implement the college’s strategic plan associated with the VHS. This includes operations of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), Veterinary Diagnostic Medicine Laboratories (VDL), Flint Animal Cancer Center (FACC), Translational Medicine Institute (TMI), and (future) Johnson Family Equine Hospital (JFEH). Also included are other affiliated services, research, and instruction activities that exist beyond our traditional academic units. These currently include but are not limited to the Orthopedic Research Center (ORC), and the Preclinical Surgical Research Laboratory (PSRL).
The SrAD will help drive the development and oversee the structural identification and implementation of the VHS including the establishment of goals and objectives that ensure excellence. The SrAD will enhance both the financial resources and the reputation of the VHS to attract and retain high-quality faculty, staff, and students and provide excellence in service standards to our clients and constituency. The SrAD will also implement policies and procedures which support and enhance the goals of the college in teaching, research, outreach, and service, and help ensure the VHS and the college are in alignment with CSU policies, State and Federal laws, sponsor requirements, and any other applicable, governing regulations or restrictions. The SrAD will mentor and oversee the leadership of the VHS including directors, technical professionals, operational staff, and administrators. Positions that will report directly to the SrAD include a VHS Administrator (to be created), current directors of the operations listed above (VTH, VDL, FACC, TMI, and JFEH), as well as any future positions to be named/determined by the VHS SrAD as well as the VHS Service Advisory Council (SAC). (Note: Supervision of participating academic faculty by the SrAD would be indirect since all faculty are directly supervised by the department head of their academic home). The position will develop and oversee the annual VHS budget and in addition, would be responsible for the evaluation of and potential implementation of changing the VHS from a university-based to a 501©(3) nonprofit organization.
