Job Description

The Global Category Strategy Manager is a highly influential and impactful role which requires a talented individual who is capable of leading the global category management activities for an assigned portfolio of $100 million USD inclusive of R&D and Commercial Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) and Regulatory Starting Materials (RSM). The manager is responsible for supporting the development of the API/RSM category strategy and associated contract execution/management and supplier performance via a structured Supplier Relationship Management program. The incumbent will execute innovative procurement solutions to continuously improve the value, quality and service received by Zoetis within the assigned spend areas. The role will be responsible for effective sourcing, supplier relationship management, risk management, and internal improvement /demand management practices.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the global category management activities for assigned portfolio, managing and implementing category strategies from initiation through to execution inclusive of ongoing Category Strategy Management through benchmarking industry best practices, Continuous Improvement and cost/supply chain opportunities
  • Delivering both tactical and operational performance in accordance with API/RSM supply and P&L commitments, whilst ensuring a comprehensive strategy to deliver long term cost reduction, supply assurance, and mitigate risk
  • Acting as a senior point of escalation with the Global Strategic Sourcing function for resolving multidiscipline supplier related issues
  • Develop and monitor contract management process ensuring executing contracts as defined by Principal company guidelines
  • Negotiate and execute purchasing contracts for API’s and RSM’s as portfolio dictates
  • Establish, lead and facilitate Supplier Relationship Management meetings with key suppliers to maintain operational effectiveness through supply chain for your portfolio in addition acting as meeting co-ordinator & facilitator ensuring agendas and actions are prepared and distributed as appropriate
  • Actively set up and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for identified suppliers in line with Supplier Relationship Management program
  • Ensure support in the resolution of API supplier related quality or service issues including mitigation plans/support for High Risk suppliers
  • Coordinate with Quality and Operations to ensure compliance with relevant Zoetis guidelines and policies
  • Develop appropriate risk management strategies to assure supply of Zoetis’s API’s as portfolio dictates, building Business Cases for approval /endorsement with key stakeholders
  • Align and gain endorsement of strategies for your portfolio with key stakeholders, working across various functions to execute and achieve the cost, quality, and service goals as agreed
  • Coordinate with other functions and impacted stakeholders to assure timely implementation and compliance with the agreed sourcing strategies
  • Continually evaluate and monitor market conditions and adjust sourcing strategies accordingly
  • Manage the supply of APIs to ensure availability and support the planning team in managing inventory
  • Manage Category strategies by (i) Initiating Category Reviews, (ii) Conduct Internal and External Opportunity Analyses, (iii) Define Category Strategies, (iv) Implement Category Strategies
  • Establish, lead and facilitate Global Strategy Teams as applicable, to develop and execute Category Strategy Projects
  • Support New Product launch teams / transfer teams with third party sourcing and contract negotiations for API’s
  • Play an active role in the Annual Budget compilation and quarterly financial updates whilst supporting P&L execution
  • Responsible for communicating all project updates, milestones, etc. to team members and stakeholders
  • Directly reports to the Global API Lead, Global Strategic Sourcing, Zoetis
  • Strong working relationship with the GMS Site Leads, Site Procurement, Quality, EHS, GMT and all functions that affect the supply base
  • Working relationship with Zoetis’ supply base and external enabling functions as required
  • Limited Global travel is required (<20%)

Education:

  • Advanced qualification including MBA would be preferable, minimum Bachelor of Science, in chemistry; chemical engineering; pharmaceutical; or supply chain management

Experience:

  • 10+ years Category Management experience preferable in a strategic context
  • Knowledge of supply chain processes and systems for sourcing APIs, RSM, or raw materials
  • SAP knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrable track record of performance in managing complex, cross-functional activities on a Global basis
  • Technical or manufacturing background in the Pharmaceutical Industry is preferred
  • Proven stakeholder management at CEO level within the supply base
