Job Description

Materials Assistant Job Description Our factory in Jefferson, Wisconsin is located in the southern part of the state at the confluence of the Rock and Crawfish rivers. We are one of the largest manufacturers within the area, shipping thousands of truckloads and railcars of product annually, including brands like Fancy Feast®, Elegant Medley®, Friskies® and Pro Plan®. Of this mass production, our Jefferson factory donates 1.2 million cans of food per year to support over 40 animal shelters and organizations.
As a Materials Assistant, you will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling of incoming raw materials (ingredients and packaging) to support the established production schedule and future requirements. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance is met for incoming raw materials while maintaining adequate inventory levels at the factory. You will also act as a liaison between corporate purchasing, vendors, and the factory.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with finished goods planning to determine required quantities of assigned raw materials needed based on the production schedule and materials requirement planning system.
  • Order assigned raw materials from outside vendors.
  • Perform freight planning duties as needed.
  • Coordinate purchases in a timely manner to minimize freight costs.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all vendor communications and as the collection point for the vendor notification process.
  • Coordinate shipments of returned and/or rejected materials.
  • Publish a weekly receiving schedule for assigned raw materials.

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years’ of experience in a buyer, procurement, supply chain or logistics related role
