Job Description

Zoetis seeks a talented individual with experience to provide sample processing and logistics support of primary pharmacology, biomarker identification, and protein production. This role will be primarily responsible for providing sample logistics support for proteins, nucleic acids, plasmids, cell lines, and study biospecimens as well as improving current practices in this area using automation and process changes. This role requires a molecular biology background, laboratory experience and the desire to meet the logistical needs of our Research groups.

The successful candidate should have at least 2 years of relevant experience with sample logistics including: working with and maintaining the integrity of biological samples and reagents, basic molecular biology lab skills, and sample logistics. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

Please note: This position is for a fixed term of 3.5 years.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using laboratory automation and informatics systems in support of protein, nucleic acid, plasmid, cell line, and biospecimen inventory as well as study supply provisioning required to meet the objectives of primary pharmacology, PK, and biomarker efficacy testing.
  • Processing biological samples such as DNA/RNA extractions, blood fractionation, and aliquoting of biospecimens
  • Working collaboratively and being flexible and adaptable in working across many scientific areas simultaneously, with rapidly changing projects and situations.
  • Applying continuous improvement approaches to analyze and suggest improvements for sample logistic processes.
  • Following basic laboratory safety procedures and managing compliance with corporate standards.
  • Operating in a highly matrixed environment and conveying scientific and technical information to a diverse audience, including management, both within and outside the R&D group.
  • Preparing, distributing, and tracking biological samples, reagents and biospecimens

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Educational background: BS (Molecular Biology or related field).
  • Molecular biology experience with extracting and preparing mRNA templates from single cells for Sanger and Illumina sequencing is preferred.
  • Molecular biology experience with preparing amplicons and libraries for Illumina sequencing is preferred.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; demonstrated ability to resolve conflicts and work collaboratively with colleagues representing a broad cross-section of the drug research and development pipeline.
  • Proven experience learning new technologies such as electronic data capture/inventory management systems and/or laboratory automation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Work environment:

The placement of this position will be primarily in Kalamazoo, MI. Occasional travel to other Zoetis sites may also be requested.

The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms.
