Job Description

A great opportunity to be part of the Zoetis Incubator of Northern Colorado (ZINC) at Colorado State University! The Zoetis Incubator is seeking an experienced and highly motivated discovery biomarker scientist to identify and develop biomarker assays to support portfolio progression. Specifically, biomarkers will include those used for determining risk (predictive), for diagnostic purposes (prognosis and diagnosis) and for determining target and mechanism engagement.

The successful candidate should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience working in an immunology or biomarker discovery laboratory. The individual should have expertise in assays of immunological and metabolic responses, such as ELISAs, Western blots, qRT-PCR, flow cytometry, mass spectrometry, etc. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential.

Please note: This position is for a fixed term of 3.5 years.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define, build and perform appropriate biomarker assays to support target progression.
  • Work closely with colleagues to design proper plans to avoid pre-analytical artifacts during the collection and storage of samples used for biomarker discovery.
  • Work closely with modeling staff to design appropriate studies to build mechanistic and semi-mechanistic models relating compound effects to relevant biomarkers and outcomes.
  • Work closely with bioinformatics team to identify potential genes and pathways of interest.
  • Work closely with regulatory staff to develop strategies for applying the biomarker qualification process into animal health development.
  • Collaborate with diagnostic scientists to develop predictive biomarkers and disease state diagnostics.
  • Present results to scientific teams and management.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Educational background: BS, MS, or PhD (molecular or cellular biology, immunology or related field).
  • Strong analytical experience in immune characterization.
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, GraphPad Prism.

Work environment: The person filling this position will work predominantly in a laboratory setting. There may be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of, and/or exposure to animal tissue and zoonotic organisms
